Project brief

Project discovery.

Thanks for thinking about working with me. The more I understand about your project up front, the better my proposal will be and the smoother the build will go. Fill in as much as you can. If you don't know something yet, just say so. “Not sure” is a perfectly good answer and we can talk it through together.

Takes about ten minutes. Your answers save on this device as you type, so you can come back to it. Just want a quick quote instead? Use the short form.

01

Who you are

A sentence or two is plenty.
Your customers, members, or the community you work with.
Name, role, email, and phone.
So I know whose feedback counts at each stage.
02

The project in a nutshell

For instance, a website that tells people what you do and lets them donate.
What kind of project do you think it is?Tick anything that seems close.
A new launch, an outdated site, growth, or a deadline you're working toward.
More enquiries, more donations, less admin, or simply looking credible to funders.
03

What you want it to do

For instance potential clients, donors, members, partners, or job seekers.
Get in touch, donate, sign up, buy, read, or apply.
04

What you have now

Describe it as it works today.
Share the links and what you like about each. They can be competitors, peers, or anything from any industry.
Styles, features, or approaches to avoid.
05

Look and feel

If you do, have the files ready to share. Logo, brand guide, colours, anything you've got.
For instance professional, warm, bold, minimal, trustworthy, playful, or premium.
06

Pages and words

Which pages do you think you'll need?Tick any that apply and add your own.
You have them already, you plan to write them, or you would like a hand with them.
07

Features

Tick anything you think you'll need. Not sure? Leave it and we'll talk.
If so, you'll want a simple way to do that, called a CMS. Some people would rather hand updates to me. Either way works.
A CRM, accounting software, a mailing list, spreadsheets, an existing database, or a payment provider.
08

The technical bits

Happy to have “not sure” for any of these. I can handle them for you.

What is it, and where is it registered?
For instance it must work well on low-end phones and slow connections, handle sensitive data, or meet a funder standard.
09

Timeline and budget

A launch event, a funding round, a campaign, or a season.
Even a rough range helps me suggest the right scope instead of building too much or too little. There's no wrong answer here.
Updates, backups, small changes, and hosting.
How will this be procured? So I know what paperwork to prepare alongside the proposal.
10

Anything else

Worries, must-haves, or a “this would be amazing” idea.

Send it back.

When you're happy with it, send it over. I'll go through your answers, then come back with any questions and how I'd approach the build.
