RentKonnect
A landlord with a handful of units usually knows roughly who has paid. “Roughly” is the problem.

The problem
Rent tends to arrive in pieces, often late, through M-PESA messages on one phone. By the end of the year it is hard to say who owes what, let alone show a bank the history.
What I built
Rent is billed automatically each month, and payments are applied to the oldest arrears first. Balances are always worked out from the payments themselves, so they cannot drift from the truth.
What it does
- Automatic monthly billing for every tenant.
- Payments applied to the oldest arrears first.
- Paste an M-PESA message and it is matched to the right tenant.
- Customisable financial reports.
- A twelve-month income history in the form banks ask for.
Under the hood
- Built with React and TypeScript on Supabase.
- Nightly billing through pg_cron, set to Nairobi time.
- Amounts are stored as whole shillings, and dates are never converted through UTC, so a month cannot slip at midnight.
Where it stands
Eight landlords use it. The financial reports turned out to be the feature they value most.
Why it might matter to you
If your income arrives in pieces and the records live on a phone, this is the kind of reconciliation I would build.
